Meet the Maker: A Dash of Excitement
Meet Christy! She is the owner of A Dash of Excitement based in Auburn, AL. Christy launched her small business in 2016 and it continues to grow each year. This past year, she sold her handmade products to customers in 30 different states! Read more about her story below!

What led you to start your business?
My nieces were the main inspiration behind starting the business. It started by making them unicorn headbands, then a few for some of their friends and finally they encouraged me to start selling them for other little girls. I love creating my products so other people can enjoy them!
How did you come up with your business name?
It is a small tribute to one of my favorite movies, A Sound of Music. The initials for my business are ADOE, as in a doe, a deer, a female deer.
Tell us about your products/merchandise
I offer a variety of hand sewn and crocheted items, jewelry and handmade greeting cards. My mom and I have been making cards together for over twenty years. Right now, my favorite product is the "Taggie" blanket which comes in 8 different pattern options for a baby boy or baby girl.

Where all do you currently sell?
Through our Etsy shop, and in The Maker and Merchant store.
What has been your biggest success?
I had an order request for twenty-five octopus toys to be given to NICU babies at a hospital in Florida. I worked on the toys for four days to get them all made and finished in time and it was all so worth it!
What is your favorite part about owning a small business?
I love the flexibility and being able to create custom orders for my customers. The personal messages I receive from customers after they receive their orders mean so much!
What are your goals for your business moving forward?
I look forward to making my small business a full-time job while spreading my love of homemade goods to others!
Tell us anything else you would like us to know that we didn't ask!
I'm a two-time cancer survivor and currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumor. Making and creating handmade products for others makes me feel fulfilled! I love being able to be creative and inspire others despite my medical diagnoses.
